Day 1: Darwin – Kakadu National Park
Depart Darwin by 4WD for a cruise on the Mary River Wetlands. Navigating the Corroboree Billabong system, you’ll access vast areas of the wetlands and see the abundance of wildlife that calls this region home. This wetland system houses the world’s highest concentration of crocodiles and the aquatic and land-based food chain found throughout the billabong system is something that has to be seen to be believed.
Next you’ll travel to the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, stopping for lunch along the way. Then visit the tropical-designed park headquarters, Bowali Visitor Centre, to view a series of informative displays on the flora and fauna, along with the cultural aspects found within the park. Later you’ll head to the ancient Aboriginal rock art sites at Ubirr and learn of the significance to these x-ray style paintings to the local Aboriginal people. Climb up through the ancient rock art galleries, with informative commentary from your guide, to Nadab Lookout for a view over the surrounding wetlands. Settle into your accommodation for the night.

Day 2: Kakadu National Park – Katherine
Travelling along the Kakadu Highway to Gunlom Falls, you’ll experience a magical combination of waterfall and serene plunge pool, surrounded by shady gums. After a relaxing dip, head out of the park through the small township of Pine Creek for lunch, before travelling on to Nitmiluk National Park. Stop for an afternoon swim in the cascading waterfalls and pools at Edith Falls. Pass through the township of Katherine before you arrive at Nitmiluk Campground. Enjoy a delicious dinner with your fellow travellers before heading off to your permanent tent, no swags required!

Day 3: Katherine
A tasty breakfast awaits you before you explore more of what the Katherine region has to offer. Enjoy a morning of canoeing through Katherine Gorge. You’ll be amazed by the glass-like reflections of the gorge and experience up-close the beauty of this natural wonder. Next, head south to join a guided tour of Cutta Cutta Caves, a limestone formation of stalactites and stalagmites. The caves and surrounding bushland are home to five species of bats, including the rare ghost and horseshoe bats, as well as up to 170 species of birds. Then it’s time to enjoy a picnic lunch at Mataranka Hot Springs. Afterwards take a relaxing swim in its thermal pools and crystal clear streams. Head off for a short bushwalk to check out the Roper River and Mataranka Falls or continue to relax in the pools. Return to the campground for dinner. B L D
Day 4: Katherine - Litchfield – Darwin
Say good morning to the birds and spot the wallabies grazing. After breakfast, say goodbye to Katherine and head to Litchfield National Park. Cool down at Buley Rockhole, a series of plunge pools that cascade down the hillside. After a quick bite to eat at the Wangi Falls Café, enjoy a dip in the plunge pool at Wangi Falls. Head back to Darwin to visit the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Market, where cuisine from around the globe, but with a strong South East Asian influence, is the main attraction. Enjoy the amazing sunset while you are entertained by buskers, bands and performers and don’t forget to take home a handmade souvenir. B L
