Itinerary Day 1: Thursday - Alice Springs
Make your own way to your accommodation in Alice Springs. Settle in and commence your discovery of this outback town at leisure.
Day 2: Friday - Uluru and Kata Tjuta
After breakfast, join your coach transfer to Ayers Rock Resort. Travel south through the MacDonnell and James Ranges. Visit a camel farm and marvel at majestic Attila (Mt Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon, enjoy a leisurely drive out to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) for an amazing sunset experience. Marvel at the unique flora and admire the view of the central valley of the domes of Kata Tjuta while you take in a magnificent outback sunset enjoying gourmet canapés and Australian wine. (B)
Day 3: Saturday - Kata Tjuta and Uluru
Rise early to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight. Then travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta, before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. Return to Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon, travel around the base of Uluru to Kuniya Walk and the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings. Later visit the Uluru–Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts. In the late afternoon, travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset before transferring to the barbecue site to enjoy a true
outback experience at the Aussie Barbecue. After dinner, your guide will conduct a tour of the night sky, pointing out constellations and explaining Aboriginal stories that relate to the stars. (D)
Day 4: Sunday - Kings Canyon
An early start from Ayers Rock Resort rewards you with a magnificent desert sunrise en route to Kings Canyon. After stopping at Kings Creek Station for breakfast, make the rocky climb to the canyon rim (for those with a good level of fitness) for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor (an easier, shaded walk). Stop at Kings Canyon Resort before travelling to Alice Springs and your overnight accommodation. (B)
Day 5: Monday - The Ghan, Alice Springs
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and spend the day sightseeing in Alice Springs. Late in the afternoon join your transfer to Alice Springs Rail Terminal.
Board The Ghan and settle into the comforts of your cabin. Enjoy dinner in the restaurant and mingle in the lounge, as you travel north towards Darwin. (B,D)
Day 6: Tuesday - The Ghan, Darwin
Enjoy breakfast as the train rolls towards Katherine. Arrive in Katherine where you can enjoy an Off Train Excursion to Nitmiluk Gorge, one of the highlights of your journey. Then continue to Darwin, arriving in the early evening, and transfer to your overnight accommodation.
Day 7: Wednesday - Darwin
This morning after breakfast, check out of your hotel, or why not stay a little longer to explore the Top End. (B)
