Day 1: Thursday - Perth
Make your own way to your accommodation in Perth.
Settle in and commence your discovery of this
cosmopolitan city at your leisure.
Day 2: Friday - Rottnest Island
Transfer by coach to Barrack Street Jetty and join Rottnest
Express for your ferry across to the Island. Rottnest Island
offers many unique and diverse experiences. Explore the
beauty and tranquillity of the Island as you sit back and relax
in the comfort of an air-conditioned coach. A ninety-minute
tour around the Island takes you to some of Rottnest’s most
spectacular locations including the Wadjemup Lighthouse
and the rugged West End where you will also have a chance
to step outside and stroll along the boardwalk to the majestic
look-out point. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Karma Rottnest
Lodge before exploring the Island at your own leisure. Return
to Perth by ferry this afternoon. (B,L))
Day 3: Saturday – Margaret River
Travel south today and head towards the iconic Busselton
Jetty, the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere.
Indulge in a lunch of local Margaret River produce
accompanied by beer and cider tastings at one of Margaret
River’s oldest breweries. Explore Mammoth Cave on a guided
tour before passing through the stunning Boranup Forest and
the enormous Karri trees. Visit Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse,
the dividing point between the Southern and Indian Oceans.
As you travel back towards Margaret River, make a brief
stop in the township where you have free time to stroll the
main street. Enroute to Perth, there’s a short stop with an
opportunity to purchase dinner. (B,L)
Day 4: Sunday – Indian Pacific, Perth
This morning you will be transferred to East Perth Rail
Terminal to join the Indian Pacific. A leisurely midmorning
departure from Perth is soon followed by a regionally
inspired, gourmet lunch with views of the beautiful patchwork
hills of the Avon Valley. The soft, green rolling hills slowly
give way to the flatter, drier and harsher, but every bit as
beautiful, desert plains. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink and some
socialising with fellow guests in anticipation of your late-night
arrival into the landmark township of Kalgoorlie, where you
can experience an Off Train Excursion. Relax in the comfort of
your cabin and drift off to sleep. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Monday – Indian Pacific, Nullarbor Plain
Arrive refreshed and eager for a superb sunrise
breakfast on the Nullarbor. Back on the train regionally
inspired, modern Australian cuisine is on hand, along with
fine wines of course for lunch, before alighting the train and
experiencing the extraordinary and ever so slightly eerie,
ghost town of Cook. Watch the passing parade of everchanging
landscape over dinner and share stories with old
friends and new in the Lounge. (B,L,D)
Day 6: Tuesday – Indian Pacific, Adelaide
After another comfortable night’s sleep, the beautiful
but unforgiving scenery is now replaced with softer
and more graceful contours as you make your way to
Adelaide for a morning arrival. Here you will enjoy an Off Train
Excursion. Reboard the Indian Pacific to take in the striking,
ever-changing landscape of South Australia as you head east
towards Sydney. Over lunch, watch as pastures dissolve into
tough Mallee scrub on approach to Broken Hill. Here you will
have the opportunity to participate in an Off Train Excursion
before re-joining the train for dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 7: Wednesday – Indian Pacific, Sydney
Wake this morning in readiness to wind your way
through the magnificent Blue Mountains where you will
disembark the train to explore the highlights of this region
before travelling through to Sydney. (B)
